The Salem Boys Choir

The Salem Boys Choir (SBC) is dedicated to providing quality music and singing experience for Willamette Valley, Oregon area boys.  To supplement music in the schools and enrich the boys' education, we offer boys second grade and older, a stimulating opportunity to learn about music, sing, and perform in ensembles, large groups, or do solo work in concerts and community venues.  A quality music education and contact with professional musicians instills self-worth, develops leadership, and builds self-confidence.

The SBC was founded by current Artistic Director Darrell James in 1986 to promote a concert by the Vienna Choir Boys.  Britta Franz, Arts Committee Chair, brought the choir to Salem as a way to encourage the restoration of Salem's Historic Elsinore Theatre.

The SBC program is individualized for the needs of the boys involved.  Individual boys and groups from the choir perform locally, regionally, nationally, and internationally for community, church, and business organizations.

The choir and individual boys have been selected to participate in many festivals across the United States, Great Britain, Austria, Czech Republic, and Canada.  Choir members have performed in the Oregon Bach Festival, with the New York Touring Broadway production of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, and in several Portland Opera productions, most recently, Tosca in November 2005.

The Salem Boys Choir is a Salem-based, non-profit music education organization supported by tuition, membership contributions, grants, fundraising, and performance revenues.
